After starting working life with his father at Tonks Bros hardware store in Castlemaine, Jason continued the family business for the next 35 years.
Jason has always had an eye for antiques and collectables and has been able to turn his passion and hobby into an opportunity to build a business to not only help clients clear space but also identify items that could provide them with a financial return.
“Our business is unusual because on most occasions we’re not buying a client’s items but taking them to market on their behalf to achieve the best prices for their valuables and reusable items that are no longer wanted. On top of that, we’re also looking after everything else that needs rehoming or vanquishing to landfill.

Jason has previously worked in similar spaces with Granny’s Market in Armidale and Cassidy’s Second-hand store in Castlemaine. Throughout his successful career, Jason has amassed an impressive network that helps provide the ‘complete service’ Jason prides himself on.
When Jason isn’t finding treasures and clearing spaces, you’ll find him and his wife of 40 years on weekend jaunts – usually ending up at antique stores! He loves a spot of gardening and enjoying a fine dining experience.

Interestingly, Dean is a philosopher by trade, studying the subject at LaTrobe University. Dean is a research fellow at the Delft Digital Ethics Centre in Delft, The Netherlands where he visits once a year and is currently writing a book 'Valuing Valuing: Self, Society and the Digital Age' in his spare time.
Like Jason, Dean has a fascination with antiques and various treasures. With an eye for fascinating items, Dean acquired a 1700s Houghton-Thorley grandfather clock as the very first item that started his own collection.
It was this mutual interest that saw Dean and Jason cross paths over 15 years ago.
“I was a customer for 30 years and he always knew so much about a lot and was always honest, open and helpful, such as by making things as affordable as possible. Most people in central Victoria know Jason through his extensive work and family history in Castlemaine and will tell you the same.”
When the opportunity presented itself to work alongside Jason and The Clear Out Co, it was a no-brainer decision. Dean believes in Jason’s unique business approach so much that he has become a certified second-hand dealer. He finds great reward in finding treasures in clients’ unwanted items and being able to help people both financially and emotionally.
Dean’s hopes for the business as it continues to grow is to be able to support the management of goods sales in-house and expand the team to include auctioneers, professional garage sale managers and own a warehouse and antiques shop.
